In 1917, the Institute for the Advancement of Man was established on Third Avenue in the Lower East Side of New York City by Dr. Itohiro Nakami. Originally focusing on political lobbying on behalf of charitable causes, the Institute added scientific research to its menu (and changed its name) when Tomas F. Hoffmann graciously donated resources necessary to keep the young organization afloat.

Since that time, the Hoffmann Institute has been instrumental in researching social and economic trends, alternative energy sources, ecological protection issues, and many other topics crucial to humanity's continued well-being. Much of the organization's funding is provided in the form of fundraisers or public and private grants.

Today, the Institute is led by Dr. Itohiro Nakami III, grandson of the Institute's founder. We currently have branch offices in several major cities around the globe, including our New York City headquarters, Barcelona, Chicago, Flagstaff, Washington D.C., Cairo, Edo, and Jakarta.
